“What’s it all About?” After asking Alphie that question in 1966, boomers embarked on a quest for the spiritual answer. After 40 years in both wilderness and wonderland, the colorful pilgrimage has brought us to what has been aptly described as a “spiritual marketplace”.
In 1993, Wade Clark Roof began to chronicle that journey in his book “Generation of Seekers: The Spiritual Journey of the Baby Boom Generation”. More recently, his book “Spiritual Maketplace: Baby Boomers and the Remaking of American Religion”, he describes the tapestry of perspectives that make up the boomer religious and spiritual orientation and their influence today.
For a less scholarly look at boomers’ spiritual legacy, check out Newsweek Magazine’s recent article Seeking & Finding, and take their trivia quiz to test your knowledge of the people and events that helped change the spiritual landscape.
Whether the collective effect of today’s spiritual marketplace is a single light reflected through a prism of colors or more of a modern day Tower of Babel is for you to decide.
