Empty Nesters

Empty Nesters
OK, now what?
Once the kids are out of the house, what happens to you?

Fret not, there are surveys galore for almost any reason and we found one that has taken the pulse of empty nesters and found out a few things. Realtors especially are interested in case you want to change your nest, so the Realty Times has looked into some findings turned up by Pulte Homes.

Here's a sampler:

-- While they have mixed feelings about becoming empty nesters, at least 75 percent don't or won't miss their parenting roles, like coaching sport teams or helping with school work.

-- Getting out of debt is the No. 1 priority on becoming an empty nester.

-- If the kids want to boomerang back, 27 percent of parents would say no, providing the children were in good health and financially secure, while 28 percent would charge rent.

-- About 36 percent say they will move once they become empty nesters, and nearly one-third of those plan to move more than three hours from their current homes.
