Cell phones for the Really, Really Rich

Cell phones for the Really, Really Rich

You got to love the Russians, no matter how deep their economy is in the tank, they always manage to eek out some opulence.

Russian cellular communications manufacturer Gresso is gearing up for a fall rollout of its new hand-made, super-premium luxory cell phone line, Avantgarde, made of 200 year-old African Blackwood, sapphire crystal glass, gold screws and a stainless steel, laser-etched titanium covered keyboard featuring Roman numerals.

Both the Luna and Sol units operate on a standard Windows Mobile 6 OS supporting Outlook, Pocket MSN and the usual text clients. They come with the usual assortment of goodies: 2 mega-pixel camera, organizer, MP3 player, etc., all packed into a 14 mm case.

The phones look nice, if you're into more tactile materials than plastic, and since they're European, they're going to accommodate the multiple components better than what you find in stores stateside.

The mob, er, I mean, company hasn't posted price points for the handsets yet, but their gold MP3 player retails for more than $4,000, so you can expect the phones to be uber pricey. That said, if you're hanging out in Brighton Beach, New York, you could get a deal on one that happened to fall off the back of a truck - just don't give the guy your social security number.
