When I'm Sixty ... Seven

When I'm Sixty ... Seven

Lorne Michaels made it cool to make fun of Ringo Starr when he plied John and Paul with about $1000 to reunite the Beatles for a "Saturday Night Live" appearance, noting, that if they wanted to give Ringo a smaller cut, that'd be fine. Ever since, slighting Ringo Starr has been easy. But then, he never really made it hard, either.

Love him or tease him, Ringo Starr is a Beatle. But he is also a quintessential rock star in his own right. He doesn't look it, but the most unlikely Beatle turned 67 this summer, the same summer he celebrated the 40th anniversary of "Sgt. Pepper's" with Paul back in June. On Tuesday a collected works of his solo material hits stores.

"Photograph: The Very Best of Ringo Starr" traverses three and a half decades, from 1970 to 2005 – a truly staggering accomplishment (how long again was it Guns 'n' Roses lasted?) The collection is a rarity if only in that pulls songs from the handful of different labels for which he's recorded. He told the Associated Press he plans to tour next summer with, yeah, more than a little help from his friends.

I would have to say that Ringo deserves every bit as much credit as any other member of the band. I'm to drunk right now to explain why .... but maybe now is when I most appreciate the artistry of some men - not their fault, maybe mine.

Either way, I've owned "Photograph" on vinyl for years and have loved it from the beginning. I will be happy to see a great collection from a great artist such as Ringo Starr.

Keep on truckin'... dude.
