George Gets in on the Neo-Beatlemania
![]() |
Wow, this current flurry of Beatlemania has no end in sight. Really, when were these guys this popular? 1967?
Yoko built John a statue in Iceland (because that makes sense); Paul is releasing hit records; Ringo is, well, being Ringo, which hasn't really changed much but nevertheless attention-grabbing; and now George is even getting in on the game - sort of. It was announced late last week that Harrison's life will be the focus of a new documentary by Martin Scorsese.
Scorsese has already begun assembling material for his documentary on the Fab Four guitarist. It will focus on Harrison's life and work, and will include interviews and extensive archival materials.
Earlier, Scorsese released in a statement his thought that, "Harrison's music and his search for spiritual meaning is a story that still resonates today," thereby explaining his eagerness for the project. Scorsese expects it will take a few years to make the film, which he's producing along with Harrison's widow, Olivia.
So far the remaining Beatles haven't commented on the matter.
Harrison died of cancer in 2001 at age 58.
