Born to Run

I didn't want to blog about music-related events twice in one week, but it's impossible not to notice all the news about Bruce Springsteen kicking-off his first tour with the E Street Band since 2002. Some are calling it the last real run for America's last real rock star. Well, Bruce, now 58, doesn't seem likely to hand over the six-string, but it's the second part of that thought that really sounds suspect.
Springsteen -- the last American rock star? Yeah, ri, wait, um, you know what, that actually may be right.
Who else is there? Steven Tyler?
Springsteen announced the tour underway shouting to the teeming 16,000-plus crowd in Hartford, "And so it begins!" And thus began next chapter of folklore for blue-collar prophet with a princely bank account.
Tour stops promoting the band's new CD "Magic" will include the usual: Philadelphia, New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Washington, DC and Boston.
So far he doesn't have a lot of cities listed, but if you really want the boss to play your town, get the governor to give Springsteen his own day, like the governor of Connecticut did yesterday.
